A really warm welcome to the Cynffig Comprehensive School website.

Cynffig Comprehensive is a friendly, caring and supportive school which places people and relationships at its core. We value the relationships we establish by working together: pupils, staff, parents and the wider community.

The website will give an insight into all we do, believe in and promote at Cynffig. As a school we uphold the values of respect, courtesy and consideration for others.

Our aim of striving for excellence underpins our determination to achieve the very best for our pupils: we do our very best to ensure that each and every pupil who comes through our doors has the opportunity to be successful, and we ensure that learning opportunities are provided to make this a reality.

Mrs Hannah Castle, Headteacher.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

Stay safe. Keep your distance. Wash your hands!

Polite Reminder

The school gates are locked between 3pm and 3.20pm every day to ensure the safety of our pupils.

This year, Careers Wales are developing a new strategic vision. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic is probably going to be felt for some time to come, but it is clear that for both young people and adults, the need for an independent, all-age careers guidance service for Wales will be crucial to aid the economic recovery. To develop this vision we would be grateful if you could complete the survey at:

The Yr7 Netball teams had a fantastic afternoon at Brynteg on Wednesday 26th Feb.

The Cynffig A team won overall. Players player was Olivia Hughes. All players played with excellent grit and determination demonstrating some excellent skill on court. Roxy Jones was top shooter.

The B team came 3rd overall. Players player Amelia Whittaker. All girls worked really hard in a number of tightly contested games.

The girls were a real credit to the school both on and off the court.

Student Parliament training day took place on the 7th October in the Youth wing. It was a very productive day where student parliament members were training in a variety of ways to govern over the course of the year. We have several visitors, Apollo Teaching who taught us action planning and market research, Matthew Bunt from Keep Wales tidy who taught us how to keep our community clean, Mrs Thomas who taught us to have a positive and calm mind set, Jordan James from Hawliau Plant teaching members the rights that they have as a child, Lois Sutton who taught us about topical issues in today’s political climate and Helen Dale from Lleisiau Bach who helped form the departmental ideas for the student parliament to achieve over this coming year. Our student support department held Mental health day which was a huge success showing the amazing sense of community between staff and pupils here at Cynffig. At the moment we are holding year group council meetings to gather ideas on how the student parliament should adapt to further vocalise pupils and their opinions.

Thank you

Josef Gray

"Congratulations" to Cynffig's Year 12 Engineering Education Scheme team as they took home two prestigious awards for their entry to this year's competition. Team members Emily Davies, Leah Evans, Charlotte Roberts, Britney Griffiths, Jacob Hesketh, Ryan Legg, and Lowri Thomas impressed the judges with their confidence, technical proficiency, presentation skills and general brilliance, taking home the award for 'Best Application of Engineering and Technology' and also going through as one of only 5 teams (out of 66) invited to represent Wales in the National 'Big Bang' science fair at the Birmingham NEC in March next year. Whilst it is always nice to attend a glitzy celebration, in reality this marks the result of over six months of hard work and dedication from the students as they met every week in their own time whilst working with engineers from our partner company Zimmer Biomet to come up with a viable technical solution to the brief the company had set.

We would also like to thank Matthew Burnell from Swansea University,

Daran Griffiths, Andrew Radmore and Lloyd Dewar from Zimmer Biomet for all the

support and guidance you provided to the students during the project.

Well done everyone, you deserve a hard-earned Happy Easter!"

Cynffig Eco project.

On Monday February 11th Matthew Bunt of Keep Wales Tidy paid a visit to our school to spread the word about plastics and what we can do to conserve our environment.

Matthew delivered a hard hitting assembly to our Year 7s, followed by a workshop for our Eco-Committee. During lesson 3- two Year 7 classes joined forces to tackle the litter problem up at the line behind the school. We collected over 9 bags full of rubbish!

After lunch, Matthew spoke about the Young Reporters for the Environment competition, which we are keen to be a part of!

We are hoping that our pupils will be more ethical and put their rubbish in the bin- every person has a role to play.
